Dangers of Aspartame; What you Need to Know to Protect Your Health

Toxic buildup is imminent if you consume daily amounts of Aspartame, as it is contained in over 6000 product including diet soft drinks. it is contained in NutraSweet. You can’t find one isle in your typical grocery store, with the possible exception of the produce isle, which does not contain at least some products containing Aspartame.

Monsanto is one of many corporations making over a trillion dollars on this dangerous chemical, which has a long laundry list of symptoms, some life threatening. But there are no plans by the FDA to take Aspartame off of the market.  This video from Fox news says it all.

Although maybe not quite as dangerous as aspartame, splenda is a sweetener that proses health risks as well. The thing is, we should be avoiding artificial sweeteners altogether, and cutting down on the processed sugar that we eat. When we get sugars from fruits and vegetables, they are processed in a much healthier way by the body, causing less stress on the liver and less weight gain.

If you know you are consuming Aspartame, stop it now and replace whatever you are eating or drinking with something less dangerous. Does one really have to wonder with so many additives in our processed foods why there is such a tremendous increase of chronic and dangerous diseases in our society?

Detoxify

If you have been exposed to Aspartame, you need to stop the exposure before your body can begin to detoxify. There are particular supplements known to support the liver, the primary organ which will be taxed during this process, available in easy to digest VitaMarin (check the supplement facts for details against the list in this article, “What to Do if You Have Used Aspartame“). LimuPlus also provides extensive liver support and detoxification.

Just in case there are any skeptics out there, here are a few links to studies that have established or suggested health risks to aspartame/nutra-sweet use:

Here’s a study in rats that found increased cancer risk after long-term exposure to low doses:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1964906/

Here’s a review of several studies which finds that it’s likely that aspartame increases risk of brain tumors; the author recommended the FDA reconsider their approval of aspartame:

http://cebp.aacrjournals.org/content/17/5/1295.full

Here’s a study finding that aspartame is not as useful for reducing the risk of hypoglycemia in those with type 2 diabetes as it was once thought:

http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/30/7/e59.extract

There are many more articles out there to satisfy the skeptical mind. We may still need more studies to firmly grasp everything, but a picture is emerging that aspartame (a) does not have the benefits we once thought and (b) is likely to have a number of negative impacts on health.

Thank you Alex! It amazes me when someone indicates they are still skeptical about these dangers. Just because they don’t feel any ill effects. Do you feel high blood pressure, cholesterol, tumors until they are bad enough to make you really sick? Anyway, prevention is the key, and I vote for that over side effects of drugs and food additives any day of the week. I’d rather not be supporting the pharmaceutical industry in my own declining years but rather my pantry and my super-food supplements! :)

Thank you for posting the health warning about Aspartame and the links to research articles that support it.

November 24th, 2009 | 2:16 pm

Thank you Angela, and you’re welcome! I’d read enough about it for so many years for a while I took for granted that everyone must know, but indeed there seem to be many who still don’t and I’d feel better having given everyone fair warning that I can!

This is scary stuff when you think about the millions of products that contain aspartame. The problem lies in the fact that the side effects occur after years of ingestion and accumulation in the system.

December 20th, 2009 | 9:08 am

Thank you Edward! Yes, it’s scary how many toxins build up in our systems over time and are causing debilitating chronic disease!

December 20th, 2009 | 11:37 am

You’re right Liam, and it’s true many of the toxins we are exposed to that our bodies cannot rid themselves of due to an inadequate supply of anti-oxidants end up causing many chronic diseases!

I always enjoy your well researched and thought out posts. I left sodas alone a long time ago. Don’t really drink juices anymore either. BUT I do still use crystal lite on the go’s…..are they bad too?

January 3rd, 2010 | 1:28 pm

Thanks! But I would definitely switch, from what I have read, Crystal Lite’s ‘On the go’ contains Aspartame – http://www.amazon.com/Crystal-Light-Lemonade-Count-1-4-Ounce/dp/B001EQ4DXE#nutrition-facts

Pam:

I’ve always been suspicious of artificial sweeteners and avoided them. This is scary ish! I’ve posted and shared this! Thanks for the post.

A documentary to watch that is very enlightening and can be found on Netflix and other places on the web as an instant download is “Sweet Misery”. Actually talks about a woman who is spending time in prison because her husband died from the toxic results of aspartame & Creatine.

Cleansing is something everyone should be doing to stay healthy.

February 22nd, 2010 | 8:18 pm

That is really scary stuff!

February 23rd, 2010 | 11:34 am

ir really is scary stuff and is also marketed under different handles, the latest creation being AminoSweet, slick marketing here “aminosweet.info”,it is banned in many countries and interesting how it was passed legislation in the US during the Regan era beware !

March 30th, 2010 | 12:00 am

Thanks for the added info Robert! Yes it is scary what they’ll pass as safe for us to eat. Sad atually!

March 30th, 2010 | 8:45 am

Thanks for posting this important info Vicki. It is unfortunate (criminal) that politics and money can and has pushed so many products to market despite the obvious need for more research and keep it on the market despite so many complaints against it. Of course, as long as people who are attached to the big chemical companies run the FDA nothing is going to change.

June 23rd, 2010 | 3:48 pm

Thank you Wayne – it is unfortunate and just plain scary how the FDA can’t do more to stop dangerous chemicals on our food supply! Just because they cannot show a direct causal link between toxins and disease, between vitamin and mineral deficiency and disease, we seem to be unable to do anything but treat symptoms via more chemicals in the pharmaceutical category!

Thanks for stopping by to comment!

I’ve been telling people about this a lot lately…it’s amazing how many products it is in. I read every label at the grocery store…Thanks for sharing!

July 12th, 2010 | 9:59 pm

Thanks Allison!

I know, it is amazing how many foods contain it! It’s surprising to me too after as many years as I’ve been telling people about it that there are still people who don’t know about it! Dangerous stuff really..

Thank you for stopping by, great to see you here!

Thanks Vicki,

Very suspicious of Aspartame – and many of the other nasties in our food/ water/toothpaste etc….and have just launched a website/twitter campaign to find out the truth. ( following the death of a young friend to a brain tumour)

Hope you’ll be interested in this – and maybe consider supporting it by following/sharing with others.

Very best wishes from Hamburg

Will

Hi Will,

I am terribly sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. The thing is we never had such a high rate of cancer and other degenerative and chronic diseases until the last 40 or so years, and it’s simply the level of toxicity to which we are exposed in our food, air and water, combined with the reduced nutritional value in our food and diets. The fact that there are people who deny that is disturbing at best, and it is frightening the things the agrochemical and pharmaceutical industries are doing.

I will be happy to share your blog and support your efforts.

Wishing You Good Health,
Vicki

very comprehensive article and very well written! It’s a shame how much such artificial sweeteners are being advertized for without long term studies that show no association with cancers and diseases!
