What Foods to Focus On Eating Most For Nutrition and Weight Loss

This is a great video of  Dr. Joel Fuhrman talks about why diets that don’t work, and explains what proportions of which foods you should eat to get the most nutrients. In other words, which foods are the most nutrient dense and therefore ones you should make a point of eating, whether or not you are trying to lose weight. And if you are, how and why this is so important.. These nutrients are of course necessary for promoting detoxification and anti-oxidant / anti-inflammatory effects on your system.

Marry me Vicki, I’m loving this stuff!

Dr. Joel Fuhrman always makes complete sense. Soups are so fantastic because they fill you up, taste great and minimise the nutrient loss from cooked veg.

LOL! I’m so glad you appreciate this – I felt like the only one I knew who did until I started doing this blog, and it’s so gratifying to have it mean something to people!

I always have liked Dr. Fuhrman too, my Mom turned me on to him, she was a big fan. Sadly she passed on with pancreatic cancer before we really learned all there is to understand about nutrition and our bodies. She was the biggest fan of my 8 Root soup (which makes me think, hmmm, it’s about time I add it to the recepies, this time of year it’s great – Carrots, Potatos, Turnips, Parsnips, Onions, Garlic, Ginger, and Tumeric, (and a lot of other spice of course :) blended smooth is optional.

Thanks so much again for your support and Happy New Year!
Vicki

Seriously, how come people don’t care or are too busy for good nutrition. There are good quality products in a convenient form and/or shopping properly. I just don’t get it.

I’m also a great beleiver in a good hearty soup. You can really throw anything into it and know that you are going to get a big hit of nutrients. Research has shown that if you eat a bowl of soup before a meal, you will consume fewer calories as you will already be fairly full, so it is a great thing to eat if you are trying to lose weight. Also if you add in some beans or wholegrains, soup can be a complete meal and will keep you satisfied and stop you from nibbling unhealthy things.

Thanks Gill! Very good point – and I love a good soup! It’s a great way to incorporate good nutrition at a low caloric price!

Hi Vicki- great blog. curious about this video: Fuhrman says if you make a soup all the nutrients that are cooked out of the veggies are maintained in the broth. Is that true about enzymes in foods as well? I thought enzymes were destroyed in cooking. Is it tru that we need to get enzymes in our foods?

Hi Rick,

Well I believe Dr. Fuhrman was talking about the vitamins and minerals as nutrients. But you are right, the enzymes are indeed lost once they temprature exceeds I believe 120 degrees. All the more reason to eat plenty of fresh veggies and fruits (mostly veggies though for enzymes i believe).

Thanks for that, good question!
Wishing You Wonderful Health,
Vicki
